KELOID #7 - Observance of Objects

THE OBSERVANCE OF OBJECTS

The Observance of Objects is a body of work based on sculptural objects made from colonial silverware and furniture.

Photographs of these antique objects reference the formal qualities of renaissance still life. Proposing them as silent observers of an era in which they were present, in a contemporary context they hold stories of that time embedded in their materiality. Viewers are invited to project their family stories into these works, recognising objects from the past and imagining their history into the works.

The colonial era was one of dispossession, violence and brutality enacted on the first people of the land.

This work was created for exhibition at Craigs Royal Hotel, a restored Colonial Hotel in Ballarat. Much of it was exhibited in the dining room for the Ballarat iInternational Foto Biennale 2019
